Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the esteemed ruler of Dubai, unveiled this new tourist attraction on his Instagram account in November 2018. The heart-shaped lakes captured the attention of the entire UAE, as their sudden appearance left many perplexed. Remarkably, the entire project was executed with remarkable efficiency, commencing on March 11, 2018, and being revealed to the public within just a few short months.

The Love Lake project was initiated with a visionary concept from Sheikh Mohammed himself, with the goal of creating “a symbol of love and unity.” Every aspect of this endeavor was approached with the utmost care, from its conception to its completion, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the site. Environmentally-friendly materials, such as bamboo water inlets and traditional-style shading, were employed in the construction.
